BPS 2021 – Relaxation Greening Requirements

DEFRA has announced that the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) “greening” requirements will no longer apply in England from 2021. This means that BPS 2021 applicants in England will no longer need to comply with the crop diversification (2 crop and 3 crop rule) or to allocate 5% of their total arable area to Ecological Focus Areas (EFA’s).

The announcement comes after pressure from industry representatives wanting DEFRA to confirm its post BREXIT intentions in a timely manner for farmers planning crop rotations in Autumn 2020.  The full press release is available on the gov.uk website.
