Chartered Architect joins Lister Haigh

Marie Harris, chartered architect, has recently joined Lister Haigh at their Knaresborough office….

Marie studied in Leeds and qualified as an Architect in 1996. Between studies she travelled to Canada and worked in an architect’s office in downtown Vancouver, assisting in the master-planning of the City’s expanding public transport system.

For the first ten years of Marie’s architectural career, she was based at practices in and around Leeds. She gained a very broad experience and worked in several market sectors including: social housing, private housing development, leisure, retail, primary and acute healthcare. She also designed projects for the Yorkshire Dales National Park during this period.

In 2005 she and husband Mike fully restored and extended a vacant property in Knaresborough; where they have settled and brought up their two daughters.

For the last eleven years Marie worked for Andrew Long Architects in Knaresborough; where she developed her skills designing projects involving listed buildings, conservation areas and developments in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Whilst at the practice Marie also worked on a number of specialist private healthcare schemes.

During this time Marie established an excellent working relationship with a network of local construction consultants, contractors and statutory bodies, including planning authorities. Over recent years Marie has worked with many domestic clients, guiding them through the planning and construction process to build, extend or adapt their homes:

‘It’s very rewarding working with clients to add ‘lifestyle value to a home’ and design buildings that respond positively to their setting and allow owners to enjoy the landscape they live in.’

Wanting a new challenge, Marie joined Lister Haigh’s expanding Knaresborough office this autumn:

“It is a wonderful opportunity for me to work alongside the excellent development team at Lister Haigh. They have a wide and deep knowledge of land and property in the region. I am really looking forward to designing for their clients and help them realise the potential of their properties.”
