Highways England has announced its preferred option on A66 Northern Trans-Pennine route to upgrade the remaining sections of single carriageway from M6 Penrith to A1(M) Scotch Corner. This will involve the creation of 5 bypasses, the construction of an underpass and some junction improvements. The aim of the scheme is to improve local community connectivity as well as a major east west commercial highway route.

Lister Haigh has a wealth of experience in compensation matters and most recently has represented the majority of landowners and businesses over the last 10 years when the A1 was upgraded to Motorway status between Dishforth and Barton. The claimants we represented included farmers, small holders, retailers and firms supplying the construction trade. The impact upon them ranged from losing a small part of a field to having to reorganise a distribution depot. We also made representations at the Public Inquiry on behalf of landowners and successfully guided other owners through blight cases and discretionary purchase in the very early stages of the scheme.

Our aim is to guide our clients and provide advice and assistance at every stage of the process and we have found this to be very successful. We adopt a step-by-step approach ensuring that we are there for clients at each stage of the proposed development. This begins with the initial discussions to gauge the impact upon the property and business and hear clients’ concerns through to making representations at the Inquiry, and being involved in the design process to minimise the impact on the retained land. We maintain an ongoing liaison with the Acquiring Authority and contractors during the build, right through to ensuring any outstanding issues are addressed once the scheme is completed. Members of our compensation team specialise in this field and are best placed to give you the unique advice you require.
